Hello, I’m Senior Editor, or should I say “we” are Senior Editor, creator of The Jivewater News and Writer, Artist, Photo-Shop Master, Website Designer, Marketer, Publisher and anything else we’ve left out. You see, Senior Editor isn’t one person, but a symbol of many rolled into one single entity. Yes, we are in fact, Batman.
When there’s a big weed bust and you need the real information you can’t get elsewhere, we’ll provide it. We aren’t in anyone’s “pocket”, though for a nice fee, we can be. All of our content is written and produced from our viewpoint. Our mission statement, if we actually had one, wouldn’t be to piss people off, but instead to strip away the bullshit that weighs down everything these days, while giving another perspective through “attempts” at humor/satire to make people think about the place they call their home. That’s all this site essentially is, how we see our home through our eyes.
Who we are is inconsequential. Our intent isn’t to promote ourselves, or else we’d have our faces plastered all-over the website. To this point, we haven’t made one penny off of this site, which we are completely fine with, and contrary to what some Facebook posts would indicate, we do have real jobs (many of us more than one), lives, trophy spouses/significant others, kids, and more pressing responsibilities outside of The Jivewater News. People might discover that they have more free time on their hands if they put down the Facebook for a few hours and stop spending 20 minutes every hour telling everyone how busy you are (We don’t think you’re that busy…).
We realize that this site isn’t for everyone, and that’s fine with us. There’s always going to be someone with different views, who doesn’t appreciate the subject matter, the tone, the questionable language at times, or just simply doesn’t find us entertaining, funny or relevant. When we founded this site, we established a few ground rules. The main rule we swore to never break is personal attacks on normal, everyday citizens. Public figures, politicians, etc. we feel are different, as that’s part of the job they signed up for, but everyday people will never find themselves in our headlines. If you noticed, our letter wasn’t addressed to anyone in particular. This was for the reasons of it likely being a fair committee’s decision, and the fact that putting one name on the letter would make it more personal than it really needed to be. The letter should not have been construed as an attack on someone in particular.
We bring this point up for a reason. Posting comments, calling names and any other form of personal attacks is really uncalled for and unnecessary. If you don’t like our article, website, whatever, please don’t hesitate to say why you don’t like it. We’re 100% Free Speech advocates, obviously, and feel everyone is entitled to express their own opinion. We will never make someone feel uncomfortable for an opposing view, in fact we encourage healthy discussion, but we didn’t call you a deadbeat son of a bitch, so we’d appreciate the same respect. If you find this impossible to do, just don’t read our site, we’re not forcing it on you.
Not that you really asked for it, but Senior Editor felt the need to do some more digging for you. With it being Fair/Festival season, we compiled a quick breakdown on what we decided were the local fairs, which ended up being the SoCo Fair, the Isle of Wight Fair, and the Murfreesboro Watermelon Festival:
- The SoCo Fair, as well documented is $20 just for Friday’s Florida-Georgia Line performance.
- The IOW Fair, for $16, gets you both Friday and Saturday night entries, and includes Chris Cagle and Joe Nichols. Let’s hope for it to be Sunny and 75!
- The Watermelon Festival is free to attend, and while it doesn’t offer big acts like it’s two counter-parts; it’s free! Never complain about anything that’s free.
All three offer food, rides, crafts, and/or all the usual extra stuff you have to pay for at these things. Basically you can see two big Country acts for $16, pay $20 to see one, or if you don’t like Country music (there must be something wrong with you), there’s always the affordable Watermelon Festival.
The four day pass would not have even been brought up in the article except for the fact that the Fair is openly marketing itself by pushing you to buy the four day pass, basically trying to create a demand for tickets that isn’t there normally. We would assume that typically about the same number of people buy the four day passes each year, so they were obviously trying to get that guaranteed $20 today rather than an unknown amount the gate. As of the publication of this article, there are still over 2,500 4-day passes available for $20 online.
We aren’t naive, and understand that economics are at play here, as well as some things they’d never admit, like $20 tickets tends to keep out the “riff raff”, as well as limit overcrowding. The old supply and demand curve for sure. Our point is the fair should be a locally celebrated event that’s inclusive to any and all residents, and the route that they have chosen in our opinion is strongly against that. The Fair should be something that the whole family can enjoy without feeling like they were robbed at the gate. It’s probably a moot point anyway, we all know its going to get rained out.
We’re just pointing out the disparity. 230 “Likes” and counting clearly shows the popular opinion. Thanks to everyone who reads this website, willingly or begrudgingly.
